COUNSELING
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resources Sciences (DiSTAR) promotes orientation initiatives dedicated to secondary school students throughout the Campania region. The aim is to provide clear and detailed information about the educational offerings of the Degree Courses, helping students to consciously choose the university path that best matches their passions and abilities.
During orientation activities, the following are presented:
- the educational organization of the courses;
- the cultural and aptitude requirements for admission;
- the professional and employment opportunities associated with the various study paths.
Orientation Initiatives
DiSTAR actively participates in orientation initiatives promoted in coordination with the other Departments of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School (SPSB) of the University of Naples Federico II.
The goal is to foster direct contact between the academic world and secondary school students through activities designed to support a conscious choice of study path.
The main orientation activities include:
- Open Days: events open to high school students, organized at the University or School level, during which Degree Courses are presented, the educational offer is illustrated, laboratories are shown, and students have the opportunity to interact with professors, students, and researchers;
- OpenDiSTAR: events open to high school students, organized at the departmental level, during which Degree Courses are presented, the educational offer is illustrated, laboratories are shown, and students have the opportunity to interact with professors, students, and researchers;
- Dedicated meetings with schools or selected groups of students and webinars, organized both at the Department and SPSB premises and directly in schools, in collaboration with school management;
- Outreach and scientific dissemination events, carried out as part of the Department's third mission activities, with the aim of bringing students closer to the content and methods of scientific research;
- Orientation actions within the National Plan for Scientific Degrees (PLS), relating to the discipline of Earth Sciences;
- Training projects within the Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO), lasting 15 hours, which allow students to develop practical and transversal skills, helping them to orient themselves towards future choices, both in terms of studies and professions;
- Orizzonti orientation paths, lasting 15 hours, promoted by the University for active orientation in the school-university transition, with the aim of supporting students in making informed choices about their educational and professional paths;
- Career Days of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School, opportunities for meeting, networking, and interviews between graduating students, graduates, and companies, organizations, enterprises, and institutions to build job opportunities and concrete professional collaborations, as well as to discover new frontiers in the world of work and professions;
- University Career Days, opportunities for students, graduating students, and graduates to meet companies and professionals from various sectors, offering the chance to learn about the world of work, participate in interviews, and explore career opportunities.

Ongoing Orientation
Ongoing orientation is aimed at students already enrolled in the Department’s Degree Courses and aims to accompany and support them throughout their university journey, encouraging active and informed participation in academic life.
The planned activities include:
- Educational tutoring, to offer personalized support in studying and managing exams; detailed information on tutoring activities is available in the Teaching section of the Department’s website;
- Monitoring of the academic path, with the aim of identifying any critical issues and providing timely support;
- Welcoming activities, aimed at facilitating their integration into the university environment;
- Individual counseling activities to prevent situations of discomfort or risk of dropping out;
- Promotion on social media of course flyers at the beginning of each semester, containing a brief summary with the main objectives and topics covered, to inform about the wide educational offer and facilitate orientation in the choice of training paths;
- Information meetings on international mobility programs, promoted by the Orientation Committee and other bodies of the Department and SPSB.
These initiatives are aimed at enhancing each student’s abilities and creating a stimulating and rewarding university experience.
