The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences (DISTAR) is committed to implementing innovative teaching initiatives that engage faculty members, researchers, and students in a process of co-design, co-creation, and experimentation with approaches, methods, and tools aimed at improving the quality of teaching and research.
Innovative teaching develops student-centred strategies that adapt to change and innovation. Its goal is to expand students’ skills through new learning methodologies and through opportunities for dialogue and sharing that enhance and stimulate participation. Stimulating and collaborative student engagement translates into active and motivated learning.

AURORA Project
AURORA is a European University Alliance whose mission is to combine research excellence with innovative teaching and social impact.
The University’s participation in this network reflects recognition of the scientific and social role of the University of Naples Federico II in connecting the Campania region with Europe and the wider world. It also confirms the University’s commitment to strengthening and expanding its international position, consolidating its capacity for innovation and social impact, and supporting high-quality research and teaching.
Membership of the AURORA network also offers the University an opportunity to share its activities within a university alliance whose priority areas include diversity and inclusion, the social impact of research, innovation in teaching and learning, environmental sustainability, and internationalisation.
Federica Web Learning
Federica Web Learning is the University Centre for the innovation, experimentation, and dissemination of multimedia teaching at the University of Naples Federico II.
Its multiplaform federica.eu, a European leader in open-access multimedia teaching, is a digital space for lifelong learning where anyone can freely update their skills, satisfy their curiosity, and specialise their knowledge through innovative, university-quality teaching accessible to all.
All courses are delivered online and are open-access. They are an excellent tool for:
- guiding students in choosing their future university study path
- supporting professionals in updating their skills
- promoting the training of technical and administrative staff
- integrating study and exam preparation
