Marie Curie PhD position at INGV-Osservatorio Vesuviano now open!
Great opportunity to work on “Multiscale microstructure characterization of natural and experimental rocks and petrophysical modeling” (DC15), as part of the MiningBrines MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie) Doctoral Network.
- The work will be based full‑time at: Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) - Osservatorio Vesuviano (Naples, Italy), within the PhD program of the University of Naples (DiSTAR)
- Three‑month secondments at: Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle (ULS, France), Helmholtz Zentrum Potsdam Deutsches Geoforschungszentrum (GFZ, Germany), Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, France), Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI, Switzerland)
We’re looking for a motivated candidate to investigate the dynamics of geothermal reservoirs and volcanic systems through multiscale microstructural characterization of natural and experimentally treated rocks combined with petrophysical modelling.
The project seeks to establish quantitative links between pore-scale structural features and field-scale reservoir and volcanic system dynamics, with particular focus on flow processes under geothermal and high-temperature conditions through: advanced X-ray microtomography (3D and 4D time-resolved in situ experiments), CO₂ flow and high-temperature experiments on volcanic rocks, AI-enabled workflows for segmentation, feature extraction, and upscaling from the sample scale to the field scale.
Main supervision: Lucia Pappalardo (INGV), Gianmarco Buono (INGV), Paola Petrosino (UNINA). Co-supervision: Ghislain Trullenque (ULS), Juliane Kummerow (GFZ), Marion Louvel (CNRS), Nikolaos Prasianakis (PSI)
