Prerequisites: Very basic knowledge of carbonate sedimentology, paleontology, geochemistry.
 
Short Program of the Course:
Course introduction: why isotope stratigraphy
1. Strontium isotope stratigraphy
-          Principles, methods and applications
-          The problem of sample selection and diagenetic screening (with an exercise of data evaluation)
-          Discussion of case histories: critical evaluation of papers applying  strontium isotope stratigraphy to shallow-water carbonates
2. Carbon isotope stratigraphy
-          Principle, methods and applications
-          Problems and limitations in the application of carbon isotope stratigraphy to shallow-water carbonates (with an exercise of data evaluation)
-          Discussion of case histories: critical evaluation of papers applying  carbon isotope stratigraphy to shallow-water carbonates

This short course is open to all PhD students and there is no registration fee. However, the maximum number of participants is 20. For this reason, students interested in attending the course are kindly requested to send an email to the instructor.
